Japan’s billet exports plunged by around 20% M-o-M in the first month of CY18, data from the Japan customs.
The nation’s billet exports were recorded at 280,000 MT during January 2018, which was at 350,000 MT during December 2017. While, on Y-o-Y in Jan’18 exports registered a fall of 17.64% against 340,000 MT in Jan’17.
In the month of Jan’18, Taiwan remains the largest importer of Japanese billet, as the nation has contributing around 45% (130,000 MT), followed by South Korea (29.21%), US (11.11%) & Philippines (8.96%).
As per the SteelMint’s assessment it was also come in line that, import of Japanese billets from the major countries like Taiwan, Thailand & China have fallen around by 28%, 85% & 50% on monthly basis.
Further in the month of January 2018, the crude steel production of Japan was around 9.03 MnT and in December 2017 it was approximately 8.72 MnT, surge by 3.55% M-o-M

2. Japanese H2 grade ferrous scrap export price assessment is at Yen 36,800-37,000/MT (USD 348-350/MT) FOB Japan
3. The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 525-535/MT FoB India & 150*150, Q235 at USD 550-560/MT FoB China.
