Japan is the world’s 2nd largest steel producing country & the nation’s billet exports plunged by around 6.10% Y-o-Y in calendar year of 2017, data from the Japan customs showed.
The nation’s billet exports were recorded at 4 MnT during CY17, which was 4.26 MnT during the calendar year of 2016.
Inline in Dec’17, Japan has exported about 350,000 MT billet, decline by around 5.40% M-o-M against 370,000 MT in Nov’17.
In context with top unload countries, Taiwan remains the largest importer of Japanese billet in the period of January to December 2017 whose imports stood at 1.67 MnT against 1.25 MnT in 2016, surge by around 34 % Y-o-Y. While in the year of 2016, South Korea was the largest importer of Japanese billet (1.53 MnT).
While in the year of 2017, Taiwan & South Korea both contributed around 70% of billet imports from Japan, followed by major importers like – Thailand (9.53%), United States (9.38%), Philippines (3.92%), China (2.10%) & Veitnam (1.68%).
— In the year of 2017, the crude steel production of Japan fall slightly by 0.10% & stood at around 104.66 MnT against 104.77 MnT in 2016, according to the World Steel Association
— Iron ore imports of Japan in CY17 fall marginally by 3% & stood at 126.6 MnT against 130.04 MnT in CY16.
— The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 505-515/MT FoB India, 125*125 3sp at USD 490-500/MT FoB Ukraine & 150*150 Q235 at USD 525-535/MT FoB China.
