Japan: Ferro Alloy Imports Up by 7% Y-o-Y in CY17

According to the Japanese customs, the country has witnessed an increase of 7% Y-o-Y in its ferro alloy imports in CY17.

In CY17, Japan imported 2.23 MnT of ferro alloys against 2.08 MnT in CY16. Japan recorded an increase of 9% Y-o-Y in its Manganese Ore imports, 4% Y-o-Y in Ferro Chrome and 7% Y-o-Y in Ferro Silicon imports.

Moreover, on M-o-M basis, Japan witnessed an increase of 10% at 0.22 MnT in Dec’17 against 0.2 MnT in Nov’17.

In Dec’17, Japan imported 0.06 MnT of Ferro Chrome, 0.04 MnT Ferro Silicon, and 0.12 MnT Manganese Ore. Japan registered a substantial increase of 20% M-o-M in its Manganese Ore volume. While the export quantity of Ferro Silicon and Ferro Chrome has been stable on M-o-M basis.

South Africa remained the largest exporter of Ferro Alloys to Japan at 0.7 MnT, witnessing a decrease of 30% M-o-M. Kazakhstan and Australia exported a similar volume of ferro alloys with each exporting 0.04 MnT in Dec’17.
