>>The High Court has given relief to South West Port Limited, a coal handling company owned by JSW, allowing landing of coal imports at the Mormugao port. However, the Goa State Pollution Control Board will monitor the volume of coal imports from Australia and South Africa, so that the imports do not cross the permissible limits.
>> The Steel Ministry of the Indian Government has requested the Finance Ministry to consider elimination of the import duty on Coking Coal imports in the country to help the country’s steel makers deal with the rising costs of the coal imports. The coal imports attract a duty of 2.5%.
>>A think tank has predicted that coastal coal shipping in India to reach around 63 MnT by FY23 from around FY32 MnT in FY17 as the structural bottlenecks will ease. In India, the bulk of the coastal coal movement take place along the east coast—from the mines of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited to the power plants in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu via the Paradip and Dhamra ports in Odisha.
