Canada: Ferrous Scrap Exports Fall 30% in Nov’17

After recording highest monthly ferrous scrap exports since 2015 in Oct’17, ferrous scrap exports from Canada have dropped down 30% M-o-M in Nov’17. 

Canada- one of the world’s major scrap exporters has witnessed fall in its ferrous scrap exports by 30% M-o-M in Nov’17. As per recently released customs data, the nation has exported 0.32 MnT ferrous scrap in Nov’17 against 0.46 MnT ferrous scrap exports in Oct’17.

On yearly premises, export volumes declined marginally by 3% Y-o-Y in Nov’17 as Canada’s exports were 0.33 MnT ferrous scrap in Nov’16.

Fall in ferrous scrap exports from Canada could be attributed to lowered scrap collection and processing rates amid winters. Scrap demand has shortened over the slowdown in construction activities in major importing countries in Nov’17.

United States remained largest importer of ferrous scrap from Canada – 

USA remained the largest importer with 0.23 MnT ferrous scrap, comprising 72% of total Canadian ferrous scrap exports in Nov’17. In Nov’17, Mexico remained silent with nil imports and Turkey imported 0.05 MnT ferrous scrap from Canada while other major importers like Taiwan, Bangladesh and India imported each 0.01 MnT ferrous scrap respectively.

Canada ferrous scrap exports up 21% Y-o-Y during Jan-Nov’17 –

During the first eleven months of CY17, Canada exported 3.76 MnT ferrous scrap registering a hike of 21% Y-o-Y against 3.11 MnT ferrous scrap exports during the period Jan-Nov’16.The country had exported total 3.37 MnT ferrous scrap over a span of CY16.

During Jan-Nov’17, United States imported highest 2.80 MnT ferrous scrap occupying almost 74% of total Canadian ferrous scrap exports followed by Turkey (0.44 MnT), Mexico (0.20 MnT) and Taiwan (0.07 MnT) respectively. While Bangladesh and India each imported 0.06 MnT ferrous scrap from Canada.
