Coal Market Snapshots

>> To meet the coal demand from the power as well as non-power sectors, Coal India Limited is in talks with the railways to increase rake loading from 216 per day to 250 per day by the end of this fiscal. Over the last few months, reduction in hydro power generation has resulted in demand for coal going up due to increased consumption by the thermal power plants.

>> Shortage of coal supply from Mahanadi Coalfields Limited has forced authorities to shut-down the unit-1 of NTPC Simhadri Super Thermal Power Station. According to the inputs received, NTPC officials will meet the relevant authorities of the Coal India Limited subsidiary to fix the situation.

>> The Indonesian government has raised the royalty to be paid by coal companies to 13.5%. The move is aimed at increasing the revenues of the government.
