24.6 MnT Iron Pellet Capacity Expansions in India in FY15

India’s Iron Pellet installed capacity was 66.6 MnT in FY14 and it is estimated to reach 91.2 MnT in FY15.

The country’s Pellet capacity has observed an exceptional growth since 2008 menacing from superior quality Iron ore Lumps dearth. Following enforcement of Iron ore mining ban in Karnataka (29 Jul’11) and Goa (5 Oct’12), Indian Iron ore production slumped enormously from 219 MnT in FY10 to 144 MnT in FY14.

Most of the plants are commissioned in states of Chhattisgarh and Odisha for captive consumption, however additional availability will show up in merchant market. Odisha will continue to be the major Pellet producing state for the reason that enough Iron ore is available and access to port will facilitate export sale.
