The government has decided to allot 16 Coal mines to state and central public sector units for commercial use.
In order to take Indian coal mine allotment to the next step, the coal ministry has finally identified list of 16 coal mines situated in 5 different states, which will be allotted to public sector units for commercial mining. Under the allotment, PSU’s will be allowed to mine and sale the fuel commercially.
The government is allowing the commercial mining to achieve the target of doubling coal production to 1.5 BnT by 2020.

Since Jan’16, the coal ministry has been under process to create a platform for commercial mining. Earlier, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs gave its approval for allotting coal mines to central and state PSUs for sale of coal, especially to medium, small and cottage industries, under the provisions of the Coal Mines Act, 2015.
The government has made a clear statement that the commercial mining will not hamper CIL’s production.
