Indian Railways plans 600-650 coal freight trains daily to meet electricity demand this summer. Railway ministry plans to add 4,000-4,500 wagons by Apr’24, with potential for 3,000 more if demand increases. Currently, 350 freight trains transport coal, with 70 more planned post-Feb’24. Coal demand for FY’25 estimated at 874 mnt, production at 1,111.6 mnt.
