Coking Coal imports in China were higher in Aug’17 in comparison with the imports in the previous month, as active steel making had necessitated higher volume of the coal imports.
According to the latest data released by the China Customs, around 5.62 MnT of Coking Coal was imported in that country during the eighth month of 2017; and the import volume was marginally up by around 0.83% over the imports of 5.58 MnT in Jul’17.
A break-up of the countries of import during the month under consideration shows that imports from the key market—Australia—were lower than the preceding month; and that was due to the prices of the coal hovering at high rates on account of the strong demand. To tackle with the high prices in Australia, steel makers in China had also imported from other countries.
