As per recent data released by Taiwan customs it is observed that the nation has imported about 290,000 MT Billet in August 2017.
The imports have registered an increase of 26.08% M-o-M in August’17 against 230,000 MT in July’17. Prior to this, on M-o-M in July’17 it increased about 53% against 130,000 MT in June’17.
During August’17, Japan has exported approximately 52% billet (150,000 MT) to the nation. While the export (Japan to Taiwan) in July’17 remains at 140,000 MT.
While, on Y-o-Y in August 2017 imports registered a gain of 38.09% against 210,000 MT in August 2016.
Coming to total imports in CY17 (Jan-Aug’17), the nation has imported about 2.18 MnT Billet; down by 1% as compared to 2.209 MnT in the same preceding last year.
Prior to this, in CY16 (Jan-Dec) the country’s billet import was around 3.28 MnT & in CY15 at 2.90 MnT.
Country wise:
During August 2017, imports is surge almost 1/4th against July’17, & in August’17 Japan’s total billet exports was around 300,000 MT & about 43% of total billet quantity exports in Taiwan. In line Russia & United Arab Emirates exports around 80,000 MT & 50,000 MT to the nation.
In CY17 (Jan-Aug) – Japan, Russia, United Arab Emirates, Iran & China was the major billet exporter to Taiwan which exported about 1.05 MnT (48.05%), 0.58 MnT (26.64%), 0.32 MnT (14.57%), 0.16 MnT (7.15%) & 0.08 MnT (3.50%), respectively.

1. The export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 490/MT FoB India & 150*150 Q235 are at USD 510/MT FoB China.
2. Taiwan’s prices for imports of containerized HMS-grade ferrous scrap have remained firm in the week, the price assessment for USA based HMS 1&2 (80:20) are at USD 285-295/MT CFR Taiwan, with negotiations centering around USD 275-285/MT CFR
