India: Anthracite Coal Imports Remain Insignificant; Global Offers Stay Stable

Anthracite Coal imports in India have remained insignificant, mainly due to the sluggish market atmosphere prevailing in the country.

During Sep’17, only around 138,500 MT of the coal was imported in the country, according to the data collected by CoalMint Research.

The import volume during the month under review was up by around 83.5% over the imports of around 75,450 MT in Aug’17.  On a year-on-year comparison,  the imports in Sep’17 overtook the imports of around 65,320 MT in Sep’16 by around 112.03%.

Out of the imports in Sep’17, 94,500 MT corresponded to Russia, and the rest, 44,000 MT corresponded to Latvia; as countries of import.

The only importers during the month were: JSW Steel, Shri Kalahasthi Pipes, Essar Steel and Electrosteel Casting.

On the pricing front, there was no change in the Anthracite Coal global offers on a week-on-week basis. In the latest assessment, offers for the coal were at around USD 136/MT CFR India.
