>> The government of Netherlands has decided to close down all coal-fired power plants by 2030. The proposed initiative is aimed at cutting down carbon dioxide emissions.
>> The Tamil Nadu government has urged the Coal Ministry to take steps to supply imported coal to the state in view of the critical coal stock situation at the state’s power plants. The state has followed what the Maharashtra government had recently done—intimating the centre of its intent to import coal due to domestic supply constraints. The Tamil Nadu government also has urged the ministry to supply at least 15 rakes of coal every day to manage the power generation in the state. The state has not yet received any coal against its MoU with the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) for supply of 1 MnT of coal.
>> Thermal coal consumption in Indonesia is expected to reach 101 MnT this year. Coal accounts for 57% of the energy mix in that country–—the world’s top thermal coal exporter.
