Shah Commission visited Mines and Siding based in Jurli, will soon commence talk with top state official.

The MB Shah Commission reached Orissa yesterday to inspect illegal
mining activity in Joda, and Koira Mining Circle. The team of 20-30 People had
visited Jurli Sector today namely Indrani Pattanaik, Jurli siding and other
mines located in the sector.

The independent commission, headed by a retired judge of
Supreme Court is believed to be training its guns on Joda and Koira, the two
most prolific mining circles of the state and wary of this, the steel &
mines department has lately suspended operations of eight mines in the Koira
circle majorly know as AMTC, ESSEL, Rungta, Gitarani, and other

The commission held discussions at the district rural
development agency (DRDA) at Keonjhar with a wide array of officials including
district collectors and superintendents of police of Keonjhar and Sundergarh,
deputy director of mines (Joda and Koira), respective mining officers of the
two circles, regional officer of State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) and
divisional railway manager of East Coast Railway (ECoR).
