Pakistan coal imports have been blooming on Chinese investments as a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). However, coal imports have recorded a decline of 35% M-o-M in Sep’17, as per the vessel line-up data compiled by CoalMint Research.
Pakistan received 0.70 MnT coal during the month against 1.08 MnT coal in Aug’17. Monthly imports in Sep’17 were still 60% higher on the year compared with 0.44 MnT coal imported in Sep’16. So far, the country has imported 7.96 MnT coal during CY17 (Jan’17-Sep’17).
Major Coal Exporters:
Pakistan mainly acquire coal from South Africa and Indonesia. During Sep’17, coal exports from both these countries have fallen on the monthly basis.
South African coal export decreased 34% M-o-M to 0.61 MnT, while Indonesian coal exports fell 42% M-o-M to 0.10 MnT in Sep’17.
