Vietnam: Coal Imports Sink 5.1% in Jan-Jul’17 Y-o-Y

Coal imports in Vietnam have fallen by 5.1% during the Jan-Jul’17 over the year-ago period.

During the first seven months of the current fiscal, around 7.9 MnT of coal was imported in that country.

Indonesia was the largest exporter, with around 2.9 MnT of exports, representing an increase of around 48.2% over the year-ago period.; Australia came the second with around 2.3 MnT, a reduction of 12.4%; while, China was the third with around 0.6 MnT, a remarkable decline of 48.2%.

In the meantime, Indonesian firm PT Intra Asia Indonesia has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Phan Ngo To Hong, of Vietnam, for setting up a coal port in the southern part of Vietnam.

The port will be used especially for cargo and logistics for coal trading between the two nations. Once operational, the port will handle 15-20 MnT of coal per year.

Indonesia plans to export around 4.5 MnT of coal this year to Vietnam.
