Iran billet export numbers continue to remain strong in August. According to data maintained with SteelMint based on vessel line up, it was noted that 195,500 MT Billets and 112,500 MT slabs was exported from Iran in the month of August.
Out of total billet & slab exported from Iran in Aug’17, 28% of the quantity was exported to Thailand. Other major destinations were UAE, Oman and Taiwan.
Iran is emerging as a potential billet and slab supplier for global market. Although it has some limitations in regards with sanctions.
But it will not be wrong to say to Iran could be next China for billet exports.
Iran steel exports up 12% Y-o-Y in first five months of Iranian FY18 – During first five months of Iranian FY18 (21 Mar-22 Aug’17) Iran based steel producers exported 2.64 MnT semi-finished and finished steel products, up 12% Y-o-Y.
Khouzestan Steel Company (KSC) remained the largest exporter and it exported 1.16 MnT of slab, bloom and billet up 72% Y-o-Y. Out of the total quantity exported share of billets was 242,440 and that of bloom was 609,842 MT.

“Billet imports from Middle East are increasing owing to competitive price and unavailability of cargoes from other exporting countries like China, Russia , Ukraine and India.
Most of the imports are being done by traders. ” said a re-roller based in Bangkok, Thailand.
Notably Thailand has emerged as one of the largest importer of Iranian billet.
