Scrap exports by United States to Turkey increased three times to 0.40 MnT in Jul’17.
Turkey-world’s largest importer of ferrous scrap has witnessed rise in its ferrous scrap imports M-o-M in Jul’17.As per recent customs data, Turkey imported 2.02 MnT ferrous scrap in Jul’17 while, the country had imported 1.29 MnT ferrous scrap in Jun’17. Rise in scrap imports could be attributed to increased demand for finish steel and trading activities in Turkey.
On yearly premises, Turkey’s ferrous scrap imports increased further by 91% Y-o-Y against 1.06 MnT in Jul’16.
During first seven months period of CY17,Turkey has imported 11.33 MnT of ferrous scrap, up 11% Y-o-Y against 10.23 MnT ferrous scrap imports during the same period of CY16 (Jan-Jul’16).
Top ports for scrap imports in Turkey were Iskenderun, Ambarli, Izmir, Mersin and Yilport.
United States continues to remain preferred source for ferrous scrap to Turkey –
United States exported three times ferrous scrap to turkey in Jul’17 compared with its corresponding imports of previous month. Except Belgium all other major exporters have raised ferrous scrap exports to Turkey in Jul’17.
United States supplied highest 0.40 MnT ferrous scrap in Jul’17 followed by other prominent exporters like United Kingdom (0.35 MnT), Russia (0.27 MnT), Netherlands (0.15MnT) and Belgium (0.14 MnT) in Jul’17.
On considering the data for first seven months of CY17, United States exported highest 1.92 MnT occupying 17% share in total ferrous scrap exports to Turkey.
United Kingdom emerged as second highest exporter with 1.61 MnT ferrous scrap exports so far in CY17, Following which other major exporters were Netherland (1.42 MnT), Belgium (1.35 MnT) and Russia (1.11 MnT) during Jan-Jul’17 to Turkey.
Scenario of imported ferrous scrap offers to Turkey – Monthly average imported ferrous scrap (HMS 80:20) offers from USA lifted by USD 25/MT in Jul’17 against USD 278 /MT, CFR Turkey in Jun’17. In May’17, the monthly average price was assessed at USD 273/MT, CFR Turkey.
