South Africa: Pig Iron Exports Analysis, July 2017

South Africa, one of the major exporter for pig iron has registered a decline in exports about 20,000 MT (50%) M-o-M in July’17.

According to the South Africa customs, the nation has exported about 20,000 MT pig iron during July’17 against 40,000 MT in Jun’17.

Coming to total exports in CY 2017 (Jan-July) it registered at 250,000 MT, surge by 47.05 % against 170,000 MT in the same period during 2016. On yearly calculation, the country exported around 310,000 MT in CY 2016 & at 430,000 MT in CY 2015.

Country wise:

During 2017(till July), the largest importer of South African originated pig iron was United States & Netherlands which imports about 70,000 MT & 40,000 MT, respectively.

Similarly, in the total pig iron exports during the CY 2017 (Jan-Jul), the major buyers of South African Pig iron was – United States (28.11%), Netherlands (16.49%), Italy (9.45%) & Taiwan (5.63%).

1.  The global export offers of steel grade Pig Iron are currently at USD 350/MT FoB Brazil & USD 360/MT FoB India

2.  South African RB2 (5500 NAR) coal offers are prevailing at USD 84-86/MT CNF India.

3.  Presently, export offers of Fe 63/64 grade iron ore lumps are at USD 84/MT Main port, & Fe 64 lumps at USD 89/MT Richard Bay, FoB South Africa
