Bangladesh: 8 Bulk Ferrous Scrap Import Vessels Reported so far in Aug’17

As per customs data maintained with SteelMint, one more bulk ferrous scrap import vessel is to unload in Bangladesh soon. Notably this is 8th bulk import vessel for Aug’17.

The new vessel named ‘La Bamba’ carrying 32,000 MT scrap from Los Angeles port, USA arrived at anchorage on 28th Aug’17 at Bangladesh port.

Bangladesh has sharply increased its ferrous scrap imports in this fiscal. As per vessel data maintained with SteelMint, The total ferrous scrap unloaded from all 8 bulk cargoes will sum up to 204,310 MT, up by 240 % Y-o-Y. In Aug’16 Bangladesh imported 0.06 MnT bulk ferrous scrap.

Changes in duty structures and agreements were the reason behind fall in billet import and increased scrap imports. Presently, insufficient domestic production of crude steel leading country to move towards backward integration and imports of scrap to surge vastly.

In the present scenario, owing to high imported scrap offers importers have resisted from making further bookings and they are relying on domestic scrap.
