India’s largest iron ore producing state – Odisha which contributes nearly 50% share in country’s ore output has registered 23% drop in its monthly iron ore production in Jul’17 due to monsoon. The state produced 6.22 MnT iron ore in Jul’17 against 8.11 MnT in Jun’17.
Odisha’s iron ore production however moved up by 18% Y-o-Y which was 5.29 MnT in Jul’16. There was an increase of 7% Y-o-Y as well for the total quantity produced in the first four months of FY18. The state produced 32.20 MnT iron ore in against 30.05 MnT in the same period in FY17.

Rungta Mines – Odisha’s largest iron ore producer registered an output of 1.43 MnT in Jul’17, down 23% M-o-M. Other major merchant iron ore producers were Serajuddin Mines – 0.82 MnT (down 15% M-o-M) and KJS Ahluwalia – 0.60 MnT (down 9% M-o-M).
State-owned miner – Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC) produced 0.03 MnT iron ore last month compared to 0.36 MnT in Jun’17 drastically down by 91% M-o-M.
Tata Steel’s iron ore production from Odisha stood at 0.84 MnT in Jul’17 (down 23% M-o-M) and that of SAIL was recorded at 0.42 MnT (down 22% M-o-M).
