USA – world’s second largest exporter of ferrous scrap after EU-28 (Europe) has witnessed a rise in its exports by 20 % M-o-M in Jun’17 against 1.05 MnT exports in May’17.
The country registered 1.26 MnT ferrous scrap exports in Jun’17.In yearly comparison, ferrous scrap exports noted a growth of 26 % as it was 1.00 MnT in Jun’16.
However, during the first half of CY17 (Jan-Jun’17), United States has exported 6.48 MnT ferrous scrap showing a hike of 17 % against 5.54 MnT exports during Jan-Jun’16.
Top loading ports in US for scrap shipping activities were Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Boston.
Turkey remain top importer of US ferrous scrap –
US continued to supply the highest share of ferrous scrap exports in Jun’17 to Turkey (0.31 MnT) followed by Mexico (0.19 MnT), Taiwan (0.12 MnT), Pakistan (0.12 MnT),Canada (0.07 MnT )and China (0.05 MnT).
India and Pakistan continued scrap imports from US –
Unlike previous trends, India and Pakistan have raised bulk ferrous scrap imports from US. Pakstan imported 0.12 MnT scrap from USA while India imported 0.04 MnT in Jun’17.

Ferrous scrap imports to US up 16 % M-o-M in Jun’17 –
In the country ferrous scrap imports stood at 0.43 MnT in Jun’17, up 16 % M-o-M against 0.37 MnT in May’17. On yearly basis, imports have surged 39 % against 0.31 MnT in Jun’16.During the first half of CY17, total Imports of ferrous scrap in the nation noted at 2.37 MnT, up 28 % against 1.85 MnT during Jan-Jun’16.
In Jun’17, Canada supplied highest, 0.30 MnT ferrous scrap exports to US followed by United Kingdom (0.07 MnT), Netherland (0.03 MnT), Mexico (0.02 MnT) and Venezuela (0.1 MnT) respectively.
