Turkey’s Coal imports have declined by 3% during the first 6 months of 2017.The country has imported 19.06 MnT coal during Jan’17-Jun’17 against 19.58 MnT coal imported during Jan’16-Jun’16, according to the customs data.
Monthly coal import was recorded at 3.07 MnT during Jun’17, which was 6% less than the coal imports of 3.25 MnT recorded in the previous month.
Also, the imported quantity in Jun’17 was down by 19% Y-o-Y compared with 3.77 MnT in Jun’16.
Grade-wise Coal Imports:
Non-Coking coal had the highest share in total coal imports during Jan’17-Jun’17. However, import of this coal grade has fallen 3% Y-o-Y to 13.51MnT in H1 CY17 compared with 13.93 MnT during H1 CY16.
Coking coal imports were seen almost constant during the period and were recorded at 2.6 MnT during Jan’17-Jun’17 period.
Of the other major coal commodities, imports of Anthracite and Met coke have increased over the year, while pet coke imports were down by 11% Y-o-Y.

Quantity in MnT
Major Coal Exporters:
Colombia was the largest coal exporter to Turkey during Jan’17-Jun’17, followed by Russia, USA, Australia and South Korea.
Among the top 5 major exporters, exports from Australia and South Korea have declined over the half-year period, while the top 3 nations have recorded growth in their coal exports.
Coal export from Colombia has increased 11% Y-o-Y to 7.61 MnT during Jan’17-Jun’17. While, export from Russia and USA was recorded at 6.09 MnT and 2.73 MnT respectively, during the period.
