Japan – a major exporter of ferrous scrap, exported 3.93 MnT ferrous scrap during the period of H1 CY17 (i.e. Jan-Jun’17). A drop of 16.4 % Y-o-Y has been noted in its exports against 4.70 MnT ferrous scrap exports in H1 in CY16. Higher scrap export prices may be one of the reasons behind drop in export volumes.
According to recently released customs data,the country has exported 0.66 MnT ferrous scrap in Jun’17.Exports showed a growth of 15.8 % M-o-M against 0.57 MnT in Jun’17.
On the yearly basis, Japan has exported lesser in Jun’17,exports were down by 21.4 % Y-o-Y, as the country had exported 0.84 MnT ferrous scrap in Jun’16.
On quarterly premises, Japan’s ferrous scrap exports in Q2 (Apr-Jun’17) summed up to 1.87 MnT, down 8.8 % against 2.05 MnT exports in Q1 (Jan-Mar’17) in CY17.
South Korea remained preferred destination for Japan ferrous scrap exports
South Korea continued to be the preferred destination for the Japanese ferrous scrap exports again at 1.97 MnT in H1 CY17 followed by China and Vietnam.South Korea imported 0.32 MnT ferrous scrap in Jun’17.
China’s scrap imports from Japan increased 15% M-o-M in Jun’17 while that of Vietnam fell 18% M-o-M.
Taiwan, increased Japanese ferrous scrap imports in Jun’17 by 200 % and imported 0.06 MnT against 0.02 MnT in May’17.
Bangladesh and India imported 0.02 MnT ferrous imports in Jun’17 which were nill in May’17.While, Indonesia imported 0.01 MnT scrap from Japan in Jun’17.
