Chrome Ore Transportation from OMC Mine resumes amid Police Protection

o Government declared the workers strike as illegal

o Clamped section 144, forces deployed

o Renewed hope for Chrome ore e-auction

Bhubaneswar: Raising hopes for Chrome Ore e-auction, Chrome ore transportation has been started by Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) at its South-Kaliapani Chrome mines at Sukinda in Jajpur distrct of Odisha on Friday with the help of tight police protection. According to latest reports, Chrome ore piled at the mines-head has been transported through more than 230 trucks from the mines.

The mineral transportation has been made possible after the district administration declared the workers' strike as illegal and clamped section 144 at the mines area by deploying 6 platoon police forces.

The workers have been on strike since the beginning of August demanding better remuneration and permanent jobs in OMC. But the mining operation has completely been halted from 1st of October as the workers intensified their agitation. However, there has been no solution yet even after several rounds of talks between the Union and the OMC management. OMC has already made it clear that; fulfilment of the demands of the workers is not possible.

With these developments the prospects of Chrome ore e-auction has brightened, but at the same time some experts anticipate a bigger confrontation between the union and the company management.
