Essar Port’s Cargo Traffic Escalates 12% in Q1FY18

Essar Ports handled 12% higher cargo during the Apr-Jun’17 period in comparison with that in the same period of the last fiscal. During the Apr-Jun’17 period, the ports had handled a record 19.62 MnT of cargo, according to the information sourced by CoalMint.

Essar Ports, one of the largest port companies in India, has five port terminals at: Hazira, Vadinar, Paradip, Salaya and Visakhapatnam.

The cargo traffic during the period under consideration had increased due to the higher capacity utilization of Essar Steel, the anchor customer of Essar Ports.

Essar Ports is also expanding its cumulative capacity to 194 MnTPA over the next few years from the current level of 140 MnTPA. In its capacity expansion drive, the iron ore berths at the Visakhapatnam port will also be raised in capacity. Currently, the iron ore berths at the port bear a total 16 MnTPA capacity.

During Q1FY18, coal imports through the Paradip, Visakhapatnam and Hazira ports were at: 1.7 MnT, 1.15 MnT and 2.8 MnT respectively, the data available with CoalMint Research shows.
