South Eastern Coalfields Limited, the largest coal producing subsidiary of CIL, which accounts for about 25% of total production of CIL in 16-17. CIL had produced 554.135 MnT coal during FY17.
SECL with coal production of 140.003 MnT during FY17 has registered a growth of 1.50% Y-o-Y over the last fiscal. However, the company failed to achieve its production target of 149.67 MnT for FY17.
Coal Production:
State-wise Production:
Coal reserves of SECL are spread over two states, namely, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. During FY17, SECL has produced 11.925 MnT coal from coal mines in Madhya Pradesh, and 128.078 MnT coal from Chhattisgarh coal mines.
Grade-wise Coal Production:
SECL has produced 139.83 MnT Non-coking coal in FY17, with an increase of 1.52% Y-o-Y compared with 137.79 MnT in FY16. Production of G-11 grade was highest with 96.27 MnT, followed by G-6, G-7 and G-5 grades.
Production of coking coal fell by 1.52% Y-o-Y to 0.11 MnT in FY17. The coking coal produced was of Semi Coking grade-II (having ash and moisture content in the range of 19-24%).
Production based on Mining Technique:
During FY 2016-17, total coal production from Underground mining and opencast mining was 14.548 MnT and 125.455 MnT respectively.
Also, Overburden removal during FY17 was 178.791 M Cu Mtrs (Million Cubic Meters) against 175.367 M Cu Mtrs in FY16, thus registering a growth of 1.95% over previous year.
Coal Offtake:
The coal off-take during 16-17 was 137.672 MT against the target of 149.67MT thus achieving 91.98% of the set target. Coal Offtake decreased by 0.78% Y-o-Y compared with 138.75 MnT in FY16.
Sector-wise Coal Offtake:
Power Sector acquired highest coal quantity during the year. Coal offtake to Power sector increased by 2.93% Y-o-Y to 108.49 MnT, against demand of 113.73 MnT in FY17.
