The Supreme Court (SC) which was supposed to hear the
Karnataka iron ore mining case today has deferred it for next two weeks.
Supreme Court today just heard the petition against the
recommendations of two panels that had submitted reports calling for annual iron ore production in Karnataka to be capped at
30 million tonnes.
The mineral-rich district Bellary, which accounts for 80% of
Karnataka iron ore, has been under scanner since July last year. Iron ore
mining has been banned in the region since July 29, 2011 which is quite a long
time. So, miners now expect to hear some
good news when the Supreme Court hears the case after two weeks.
