According to the recent provisional data released by World Steel Association (WSA), the total crude steel production of 67 steel manufacturing countries for May’17 has registered a growth of 2%, Y-o-Y basis and was recorded at 143.3 MnT in May’17 against 140.48 MnT in May’16.
On monthly basis, world crude steel production witnessed marginal increase of 1% in May’17 against Apr’17. In Apr’17 world crude steel production was recorded at 142.06 MnT.

China’s crude steel output up 2% Y-o-Y in May’17 – China’s crude steel output has recorded increase of 2% Y-o-Y to 72.26 MnT in May’17 against 70.97 MnT in May’16. On monthly basis, China’s crude steel production registered the minute decline of 0.7% in May’17 as compared to 72.77 MnT in Apr’17.
Japan crude steel production up marginally – In May’17 nation’s crude steel reported a marginal rise on Y-o-Y basis to 8.95 MnT against 8.94 MnT in May’16. On M-o-M basis, Japan’s crude steel production increased 2% compared to 8.75 MnT in Apr’17.
India’s crude steel output expected to touch 8.5 MnT in May’17 – According to data released by World Steel Association, India’s crude steel output is expected to have touched 8.5 MnT in May’17. However as per provisional data released by Joint Plant Committee (govt. of India) nation’s crude steel showed marginal decline of 0.61% to 8.16 MnT in May’17 against 8.11 MnT in Apr’17.
South Korea crude steel output expected to grow 4% M-o-M in May’17 – South Korea’s crude steel production was recorded at 5.67 MnT up by 4% in May’17 against 5.48 MnT in Apr’17. In May’16, South Korea crude steel output stood at 5.82 MnT in May’16.
However,crude steel production of other top steel producing countries in May’17 remained as follows – United States: 6.99 MnT, Russia: 5.95 MnT and Brazil: 2.93 MnT.
