Russia is the third-largest coal exporter in the world. However, the country also imports a small amount of coal, majorly from its neighbouring country Kazakhstan, which supplies about 90% of the Russia’s total monthly coal imports.
During Apr’17, Russia Imported 1.45 MnT coal. Coal imports were down by 19% compared with 1.8 MnT in Mar’17, according to the customs data. Coal Imports have also fallen 23% Y-o-Y compared with 1.88 MnT in Apr’16.
Russian coal imports have been lower during the first 4 months of 2017 compared with the coal imported during the corresponding period of the previous year. The country has imported 6.90 MnT coal during Jan’17-Apr’17 against 7.13 MnT imported during Jan’16-Apr’16, registering a decline of 3% Y-o-Y.
Major Exporting Countries:
Kazakhstan, the major coal exporter to Russia, supplied 1.32 MnT coal in Apr’17. Coal Exports in Apr’17 were down by 19% on the monthly basis and 22% on the yearly basis.
Ukraine, second largest coal exporter, also saw a decline in their monthly exports to Russia. Coal exports fell 25% M-o-M to 0.09 MnT in Apr’17.
