According to recent figures reported by Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization, major steel makers in Iran exported 571,888 MT of semi-finished and finished steel in 2nd month of current Iranian year (starting 21 Mar’17), down 24% Y-o-Y.
However export volumes for first two months (21 Mar-21 May’17) of the year remained at 931,461 MT, down 1% Y-o-Y.
As per reports, fall in export volumes could be attributed to the weakening slab prices over fall in iron ore and coking coal prices in China.
Shipper-wise Iran steel exports – Iran’s KSC remained the biggest exporter in the 2nd Iranian month with exports of 293,262 MT, up 120% Y-o-Y. Bloom exports made up the bulk of KSC’s shipments with 176,345 MT, up 118% Y-o-Y. However, the company’s billet exports were down 71% to 15,157 MT.
The company is one of the subsidiary of Iranian Mines & Mining industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO). The company has been actively floating tenders for slab and billet exports. It overtook Mobarakeh Steel Company to become Iran’s largest steel exporter last year.

Iran’s rising exports a part of country’s 20 year Vision plan – Iran’s strengthening steel exports are a part of Iran’s 20 year Vision Plan (2005-25) and industry is aiming to become world’s 6th largest steel maker. According to World Steel Association report, Iran’s crude steel output, increased by 11% Y-o-Y from 16.15 MnT in CY15 to 17.89 MnT in CY16. According to Iranian Ministry of Industries, Mines and Trade, Iran’s crude steel output is projected to increase reach 55 MnT by 2025.
