India: Silico Manganese Exports Up by 5% M-o-M in Mar’17

According to the custom data, India witnessed an increase of 5% in its Silico Manganese exports in Mar’17 at 67,844 MT against Feb’17. In Feb’17, the same was 64,393 MT.

Moreover, India has also recorded a marginal 1% increase in its Silico Manganese exports in FY17 on Y-o-Y basis. In FY17, India registered total export of 0.68 MnT against 0.67 MnT in FY16.

Japan was the largest importer of Indian Silico Manganese in Mar’17 witnessing an increase of 32% M-o-M in its imports. However, UAE and Italy being the second and third largest importers registered a decrease of 7% and 27% respectively in Mar’17 against the previous month.

Presently, Indian Silico Manganese is facing tough competition from its Malaysian counterpart which is aiming to achieve total manganese alloys production of 200,000 – 250,000 MT per annum. Malaysia enjoys a competitive advantage over others due to its low cost power.
