South African scrap export has fallen further in Apr’17. South Africa exported 31,596 MT ferrous scrap in Apr’17 compared to 55,528 MT in Mar’17. Thus a monthly drop of 43% M-o-M can be noticed.
However on yearly premises, South Africa ferrous scrap exports are down by 13% as it was 36,315 MT in Apr’16.
During Jan-Apr’17, ferrous scrap exports from South Africa amounted to 170,694 MT against 175,076 MT in the same period last year.
Pakistan remains the largest importer of South African ferrous scrap – Pakistan imported 15,126 MT ferrous scrap from South Africa in Apr’17, down 31% M-o-M. Pakistan has emerged as one of the major importers of South African ferrous scrap in Q1 CY17. It is expected that Pakistan’s rising crude steel output will further increase scrap imports.
India remained 2nd largest importer of South African ferrous scrap in Apr’17 & imported 11,991 MT. Other major importers were Vietnam, Indonesia and Bangladesh.
South Africa is one of the largest ferrous scrap exporters in the world and exported 0.64 MnT ferrous scrap in CY16.
