United States ranks 4th in terms of top steel producing countries and recorded crude steel output of 78.45 MnT in CY16.
According to USA customs data, USA flat steel exports which includes (7208 HR coils/Plates,7209 CR coils, 7210, 7212 GP/GC and 7225 electrical sheets) shows marginal decline of 2%, on monthly basis to 0.47 MnT in Apr’17 as compared to 0.48 MnT in Mar’17.
On yearly basis, nation’s flat steel exports fall down drastically by 21% in Apr’17 against Apr’16. In Apr’16 the same stood at 0.39 MnT.
In first four months of 2017 (Jan-Apr) nation’s flat steel exports moved down significantly by 18% to 1.79 MnT as compared to 1.52 MnT in similar time-frame of previous year.

If commodity-wise analysis is made, then HRC exports assessed at 0.15 MnT,drop by 21% in Apr’17 against 0.19 MnT in Mar’16.Similarly other flat products like CRC and electrical sheets reported decline in Apr’17.GP products remained stable in Apr’17 against last month.
Country-wise USA Flat Steel Exports-
During Jan-Apr’17, Canada was the major flat steel importer of USA and has procured 0.82 MnT against 0.77 MnT in same time frame of previous year.Other countries include Mexico and Belgium.
