Turkey has increased the production of commercial grades flat steel in recent years.However nearly half of flat steel consumption is met through imports.Almost 85% of imports are made from Europe and CIS nations.
According to the latest customs data, Turkey flat steel imports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates), 7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets), 7210/7212(GP/GC) have declined significantly by 13% M-o-M basis to 0.59 MnT in Apr’17 against Mar’17. In Mar’17 the same stood at 0.68 MnT.
On yearly premises, Turkey flat steel imports went down drastically by 22.3% in Apr’17 against 0.76 MnT in Apr’16 .
However during Jan-Apr’17 Turkey flat steel imports was assessed at 2.41 MnT down by 17% against 2.91 MnT in similar time span of previous year.
Grade-Wise Turkey Flat Steel Imports:As per grade-wise analysis, 7208 imports inched down by 16.79 %,M-o-M in Apr’17 against Mar’17 whereas grade like 7209 and 7212 also witnessed the growth in Apr’17.Moreover other flat steel grades like 7225 reduced to 14.7% in Apr’17.

Country-Wise Turkey Flat Steel imports– In Apr’17 Russia was the major flat steel exporter and has shipped 2,59,243 MT of flat steel to Turkey in Apr’17 against 3,06,741 MT of flat steel in Mar’17. Other major flat steel exporting countries to Turkey include France, South Korea, followed by Ukraine and Romania.
