JSPL plans coking coal exports from Mozambique this year

Jindal Steel and Power
anticipates starting up with coking coal exports to its steel plants in India this
year from Mozambique. It owns mines in Changara
district located in the western Mozambican province of Tete. The director of
Jindal-Mozambique Manoj Gupta said in an interview that initially  they would start with limited exports  but will eventually rise,  to 10 million tones (mt) a year when the mine is fully developed.

“Right now, we are developing
the mine and setting up all the necessary infrastructures, including an
electricity sub-station”, said Gupta. “We are providing all the
conditions for the start of operations, so that by the end of the year we can
start the first exports”.

“We will use the existing
facilities, and our volume of exports will depend on the capacity of the Sena
Line”, said Gupta. “We intend to participate in the projects for new
infrastructures that are in the government's plans, and which are in line with
our targets”.

Jindal plans to use the
Sena railway line running from Tete province to port Beira for exporting its
coal The company will look for other path to the sea with growing operational
mines as the Sena line and  the coal
terminal at Beira port will be unable to handle more than six mt of coal a
year.
