As a stringent measure for controlling atmospheric pollution, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered closure of all industrial units, using Petcoke as a fuel, that do not have permission to use the fuel.
At the same time, the tribunal has also directed the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and all the state governments to decide within two months whether Petcoke is an approved fuel as per the existing laws.
The NGT has, however, allowed units having the necessary consent for using the fuel to continue using the fuel for two months until a policy in the context is finalized.
The tribunal has directed the Central Pollution Control Board to communicate the order to all Pollution Control Boards and ensure compliance within one month.
CoalMint will soon come up with a detailed analysis on the impact of the order after studying the market impact.
