Tata Power’s Generation Crosses 52000 MU in FY17

Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company has crossed 52,000 Million Units (MU) for the first time, a press release from the company stated.

Company’s consolidated generation through all its subsidiaries increased 11% Y-o-Y to 52,512 MU (Million Units) in FY17 as compared to 47,347 MU in FY16.

Power in MU

Power Plant Installed Capacity:
Tata Power’s installed capacity increased by 16% in FY17. The Company, together with all its subsidiaries and jointly controlled entities, has an installed generation capacity of 10,613 MW as on May’17.

Total installed capacity in FY16 was 9180 MW from various fuel sources such as thermal (coal, gas and oil), hydroelectric power, renewable energy (wind and solar PV) and waste heat recovery.

Commenting on the robust business performance, Mr Ashok Sethi, COO and ED, Tata Power, stated, Tata Power has and will continue to serve the nation earnestly and will continue to be part of India’s growth story. We are confident in the next few years we will have greater contribution towards the Government and consumers’ vision of a power sufficient nation.

Tata Power is aiming to increase non-fossil fuel based generation output to 30- 40% by 2025.

In this regard, the Company added 1350 MW of renewable capacity during the year thereby making it largest green portfolio company in India.

Tata Power’s renewable energy (comprising of hydro, waste gas, solar and wind) capacity crossed the 3000 mark and now stands at 3141 MW.

During FY16, Tata power’s subsidiary Tata power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) completed the acquisition of Welspun Renewables Energy (WREPL) which possess 1140 MW renewable power project.

Moreover, On the international front, Tata power’s south African joint venture company, Cennergi, started commercial operations of both its wind farms which has a total capacity of 230 MW.
