Global Seaborne Export of Manganese Ore down in CY’16

According to the data released by customs, the export of manganese ore by major countries has declined by 8% in CY’16 totaling 23.7 MnT against 25.7 MnT in CY’15. The imports of Manganese ore remained stable in CY’16.

Manganese ore import by India have decreased by 18% Y-o-Y as the production of Ferro alloys was down in 2016 due to which the trade for manganese ore also went down. The high manganese ore prices and the depletion of rupee also effected manganese ore import during the CY 2016.

Exporting Countries

South Africa:
South Africa one of the major exporters of Manganese ore, exported 12.4 MnT during CY’16, reporting an increase of 11% in its exports as compared to CY’15 where the country exported around 11.1 MnT.

Australia:
Australia, exported 4.36 MnT in CY’16 with a change of 29 % downwards in its exports from CY’15 where the country exported 6 MnT of Manganese ore.

Gabon:
The country’s exports of Manganese ore dipped 24% in CY’16 as they exported 2.9 MnT. The exports were at 3.8 MnT in CY’15.

Brazil:
Brazil exported 2 MnT of Manganese ore in CY’16. The exports in CY’16 were higher by 8% from CY2015 exports where the country exported 1.8 MnT.

Ghana:
Ghana registered a decrease of 29% in its exports of Manganese ore as the country exported 1.2 MnT in CY’16 as compared to 1.7 MnT in CY 2015.

Malaysia:
Malaysian Manganese ore exports declined 29% as the country exported 0.79 MnT in CY’16 as compared to 0.99 MnT in CY 2015.

Importing Countries–

• China was the largest importer of Manganese ore with an increment of 8% in CY’16 as the country imported 17 MnT of Manganese ore against CY’15 imports of 15.7 MnT.
• The imports of Manganese ore by Japan have decreased by 26% in CY’16, the country imported around 0.90 MnT as compared to the import of 1.2 MnT in CY’15.
• Import of Manganese ore by India were down by 18% in CY’16 as the country imported the quantity of around 1.77 MnT compared to 2.15 MnT in CY’2015.
• South Korea saw downward movement of 32% in its imports of Manganese ore after importing 0.96 MnT in CY’16 against 1.41 MnT in CY’15.
• Norway imported 1.03 MnT in CY’16 dipping 17% as the country imported 1.24 MnT of Manganese ore in CY’15.
• Russian import of Manganese ore moved up by 2% as the country imported 0.98 MnT in CY’16. Whereas 0.96 MnT of Manganese ore was imported in CY’15.
