Indian Manganese Ore Imports Up by 56% in Apr’17

India imported around 0.22 MnT of Manganese Ore in Apr’17 against 0.14 MnT in Mar’17.

According to Customs data, Indian Manganese Ore imports has surged significantly up by 56% M-o-M to 0.22 MnT in Apr’17 as compared to 0.14 MnT in Mar’17.

On Y-o-Y basis, India’s Manganese Ore imports rose marginally by 5% in Apr’17 against Apr’16. In Apr’16 the same stood at 0.21 MnT.

Manganese Ore Exporters to India

India relies heavily on Manganese Ore imports, and half of its Manganese Ore requirement is fulfilled through imported Ore. South Africa being the largest exporter of Manganese ore in the world, registered an increase of 9% M-o-M in its exports to India. South Africa shipped 0.12 MnT to India in Apr’17 against 0.11 MnT in Mar’17. Other major exporting countries include Australia and Gabon.

Major Ports

Vizag remained one of the major ports for Manganese Ore imports, witnessing an increase of 67% M-o-M in its imports, while, Kolkata Port registered an increase of 40% in its Manganese Ore imports in Apr’17. These two ports account for almost all of Indian Manganese Ore imports.

Importers Of Manganese Ore

With a fall in Manganese Ore prices in Mar’17, many Manganese alloy producers in India booked cargoes for Apr’17 delivery. Nava Bharat Ventures Ltd imported the maximum quantity, followed Sharda Metals & Alloys Ltd and  Sharda Energy & Minerals Ltd. These Companies registered a huge increase of 236%, 74% and 83% respectively M-o-M in Apr’17.
