USA: Flat Steel Imports Rise 10% in Mar’17

United States ranks 4th in terms of top steel producing countries and recorded crude steel output of 78.45 MnT in CY16.

According to USA customs data, USA flat steel imports which includes (7208 HR coils/Plates,7209 CR coils, 7210, 7212 GP/GC and 7225 electrical sheets) rose significantly by 10%, on monthly basis to 0.90 MnT in Mar’17 as compared to 0.82 MnT in Feb’17.

On yearly basis, nation’s flat steel imports surged marginally by 5% in Mar’17 against Mar’16. In Mar’16 the same stood at 0.86 MnT.

However,on Q-o-Q basis (Jan-Mar) nation’s flat steel imports moved down by 3.2% to 2.69 MnT as compared to 2.78 MnT in similar time-frame of previous year.

Grade-Wise USA Flat Steel Imports in Mar’17
If grade-wise analysis is made, then 7210 imports have rose by 2.33% in Feb’17 against whereas grade 7208,7225 and 7212 witnessed the growth in Mar’17 against previous month. Although, other flat steel grades imports like 7209 seen falling in Mar’17.

Canada was the major flat steel exporter to USA and shipped 2,62,454 MT in Mar’17 against 2,31,814 MT in Feb’17.Other major countries include Korea,Taiwan followed by Netherlands and Mexico.
