Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) is one of the leading coal export terminals in the world. Established in 1976, RBCT has grown into an advanced 24-hours operation facility with designed coal handling capacity of 91 MnT per annum.
RBCT majorly handle exports of South African thermal coal. However, export volume from the terminal decreased by 22% M-o-M to 5.50 MnT in Apr’17, compared with 7.03 MnT in Mar’17, as per the preliminary data gathered by CoalMint Research.
Fall in Demand for South African thermal coal could be attributed for the downfall in RBCT’s monthly exports. As a consequence, Index price of API4 has fallen to USD 75 this week.
Major Coal Importing Countries:
India received the majority of Non-Coking coal shipments from RBCT in Apr’17, followed by Pakistan, Spain and Russia.
India and Pakistan both witnessed fall in their monthly imports from RBCT.
India received 2.96 MnT coal in Apr’17, down by 6% M-o-M. Besides, imports from Pakistan fell by 19% M-o-M to 0.78 MnT.
Spain was the third-largest coal importer from RBCT. The country did not receive any coal shipments in Mar’17, acquired 0.21 MnT coal in Apr’17.
