Japanese Ferrous Scrap Export Up by 3%, M-o-M

Japan, the third largest exporter of ferrous scrap, exported around 8.55 MnT in CY’16. Japanese Export showed an upward movement by 3% M-o-M. Japan exported 716,783 MT in Mar’17 which was 695,919 MT in Feb’17. And on a Y-o-Y basis it is has moved down 8%. Country exported 774,560 MT in Mar’16 and 716,783 MT in Mar’17.

Republic of Korea is seen ahead of all other countries in Mar’17 for importing 44% ferrous scrap of the total scrap exported by Japan followed by other countries like China, Vietnam as the month prior.

Out of the total ferrous scrap exports Japan exported

  • 369,157 MT of Plate Cutting comprising about 52% of the total exports,
  • 249,705 MT of  Other waste scrap of iron or steel
  • 94,109 MT Turnings, shavings & Chips etc
  • 3,489 MT of Waste and scrap of other alloy steels
  • Others Grades amounted 323 MT.

Plate cutting export by Japan reduced in Mar’17 as compared to Feb’17 by about 9% still being maximum to be exported followed by Other waste and scrap of iron or steel which increased about 27% in March’17
