CCO Downgrades 117 CIL’s Mines

The Coal Controller’s Organization (CCO) has downgraded 177 out of 413 Coal India Limited’s(CIL) mines, an act that could hamper the coal miner’s profitability.

The downgrades, effective from 1Apr’17, were done after examination of a total of 2,636 samples of CIL’s seven subsidiaries. However, a few mines were upgraded too.

Apparently, CIL’s focus henceforth will be on improving coal quality. Coal grades are determined by the intrinsic gross calorific value.
