China, the world’s largest importer of iron ore has imported 95.56 MnT iron ore in Mar’17. Iron ore imports have been up by14% M-o-M against the quantity of 83.5 MnT last month.
The China iron ore imports were up for the first quarter ended in Mar’17 as well with the quantity of 271.05 MnT against 241.4 MnT for the Jan-Mar quarter in 2016.
The imports were up Y-o-Y too by 12% compared with the month of Mar’16.
The iron ore prices have been falling in China consistently. Monthly average spot iron ore fines (Fe 62%) prices were analyzed at USD 87/MT, CFR China in Mar’17 which was USD 88.2/MT, CFR China in Feb’17.
