Recent trade statistics released by Brazil Customs show that Brazil has exported around 36.4 MnT iron ore in Mar’17. Iron ore exports from Brazil increased by 46% M-o-M against 24.9 MnT in Feb’17.
Exports were up by 20% Y-o-Y as well compared with the same month last year. It were 6% up compared with the 1st quarter of 2016 at 90.3 MnT which was 85.3 MnT last year.
The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps and fines) exports in Mar’17 were registered at 33.18 MnT 41% up M-o-M which were 23.53 MnT in Feb’17. It was up by 18% Y-o-Y as well compared with the March last year, as it was 28.17 then.
For the first quarter of 2017 Brazil exported 83.3 MnT non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps and fines) up 8% compared to the first quarter in 2016 which was at 76.92 MnT
The agglomerated iron ore (pellets and concentrate) exports in Mar’17 were registered at 3.22 MnT up by both M-o-M 46% and 50% Y-o-Y, but it were down by 8% compared with the first quarter of 2016 which were 7.74 MnT for 2017 and 8.38 MnT for 2016.
The average export price for Brazilian iron ore in Mar’17 was around USD 63.9/MT, FoB Brazil, rose considerably by 6.8/MT from Feb’17 as it was USD 57.1/MT, FoB Brazil. However, the average export prices rose by USD 37.3/MT against USD 34.2/MT Y-o-Y, FoB Brazil in Mar’16.
According to data provided by Inchcape Shipping Services, Brazil, – the country exported 36.4 MnT iron ore via sea route. Vale, the world’s largest iron ore producer exports around 86% of iron ore via sea route.
Out of total exported quantity Brazil exported around 56% iron ore to the world largest importer China in Feb’17, whereas it exported to Japan 10%, Malaysia 7%, and Netherlands’ share was 6% via sea route.
