Anthracite Coal offers have jumped on account of the rising Coking Coal prices due to supply disruptions in Australia, after the Debbie cyclone.

The latest offer for Anthracite Coal has risen sharply to around USD 140/MT CFR India, which is higher by USD 25/MT over the week-ago rate.

The relationship of Anthracite Coal with Coking Coal stems from the fact that Anthracite Coal also can be used in the steel industries. As a normal practice, Anthracite Coal is often blended with Coking Coal for producing coke in steel mills. As a matter of fact, Anthracite Coal is the purest form of coal, with the highest carbon content.

However, demand for Anthracite Coal in India is sluggish as user-industries have almost no affinity for the coal type.

In the current time, Indian steel makers could use Anthracite Coal as Coking Coal prices are moving upwards.
