Japan, second largest iron ore importer of the world imported 9.48 MnT iron ore in Feb’17 against 10.21 MnT in Jan’17. There was a decrease of 7% in iron ore imports M-o-M.
Similarly on Y-o-Y compared to the Feb’16, iron ore imports were down by 8%. In Feb’16, the country imported 10.29 MnT iron ore.
In the first 2 months of 2017, the country imported 19.69 MnT iron ore, down 5% as it was 20.67 MnT in the same period last year.
The non-agglomerated iron ore import in the month of Feb’17 was registered at 8.22 MnT against 9.21 MnT in Jan’17 down 11% M-o-M and 9% Y-o-Y against Feb’16. The agglomerated iron ore imports were registered at 1.26 MnT in Feb’17 compared to 1 MnT in Jan’17 up 26% M-o-M and 2% Y-o-Y against Feb’16.
Australian iron ore exports to Japan have witnessed a drop of 4% M-o-M which was 5.45 MnT in Feb’17 and 5.65 MnT in Jan’17. The nation exported around 5.81 MnT iron ore in Feb’16.
Brazil exported 2.58 MnT iron ore to Japan in Feb’17, the equal quantity as in the month of Jan’17 but down by 12% Y-o-Y for the month of Feb’16 which was 2.94 MnT.
Canada moved up and was the third largest iron ore exporter to Japan in Feb’17 and exported 0.55 MnT iron ore against 0.43 MnT in Jan’17 up 28% M-o-M and 14 % Y-o-Y compared with Feb’16.
USA turned out to be the fourth largest iron ore exporter to Japan in Feb’17 and exported 0.24 MnT iron ore up 80% against 0.13 MnT in Jan’17, there were no exports to Japan in Feb’16 by USA.
