Debbie Cyclone Update: Major Australian Coal Handling Ports Remain Closed

The main coal handling ports in Australia—Abbot Point, Hay Point and DBCT—have remained closed since 26Mar’17 due to the violent Debbie cyclone.

According to the inputs received, more than 78 ships are waiting at all  Australian East Coal ports. Access to Abbot Point Coal Terminal is not possible due to local flooding and power-cut. Hay Point and DBCT ports are without attending staff and power.

Moreover, the railway operators of Newlands Rail to the Abbot Point, and Goonyella Rail to Hay Point and DBCT from coal mines have suspended their coal trains, and declared Force Majeure on all their customers, who are coal shippers.
