Odisha: Iron Ore Output Surge to 84 MnT During Apr-Feb’17

Iron ore production in Odisha has increased sharply by 26% Y-o-Y during Apr-Feb’17.

India’s largest iron ore producing state – Odisha has been witnessing sharp increase in iron ore production. State’s iron ore output has hit highest since a decade. Increased production from operational mines has escalated state’s iron ore production in this fiscal. On monthly premises, Odisha iron ore production has surged 15% M-o-M to 8.4 MnT in Feb’17.

So far in this fiscal (till Feb’17) Odisha’s iron ore production was recorded at 84.01MnT up 26% Y-o-Y. In the same period last fiscal, the figure stood at 66.88 MnT.

Rungta Mines – the largest iron ore producer in Odisha witnessed sharp rise of 21% M-o-M in its iron ore production in Feb’17. It produced 1.7 MnT iron ore in Feb’17 against 1.4 MnT in Jan’17. Iron ore production of other major miners remained as follows: AMTC mines – 1.1 MnT, Serajuddin Mines – 0.7 MnT and KJS Ahluwalia mines – 0.5 MnT

State-owned miner – OMC produced 0.6 MnT iron ore in Feb’17.

Talking about captive mines, Tata Steel’s iron ore production stood at 0.7 MnT and that of SAIL was at 0.50 MnT in Feb’17.

Odisha’s merchant mines iron ore production vs dispatches in FY17 : Iron ore production of Odisha’s merchant mines stood at 65.05 MnT during Apr-Feb’17. Iron ore dispatches to domestic market (excluding movement for exports) in the same time frame was recorded at 55.53 MnT. Amid higher global prices and good realizations, iron ore exports from Odisha has also observed significant increase in this fiscal.
